You're Doing Everything Right. So Why Are Your Numbers Still Spiking?

The GD Control Method is an 8-week program for pregnant women with gestational diabetes who are exhausted from second-guessing every bite — and ready to finally understand why their body does what it does.

I know exactly what it feels like to sit in that appointment, walk out with a glucometer and a sheet of generic advice, and think: that's it? That's the plan?

I had gestational diabetes in both of my pregnancies. I followed the advice I was given. My numbers didn't cooperate. I felt confused, guilty, and completely let down by a system that handed me a problem without the tools to actually solve it.

So I did what any nutritionist with unresolved questions does: I went deep. I combined everything I knew about holistic health, blood sugar, the nervous system, and pregnancy — and I built the program I desperately needed the first time around.

That program is The GD Control Method. And the women who go through it aren't just getting steadier numbers. They're getting their pregnancies back.

— Alycia Ammar, Certified Holistic Nutrition Consultant & Natural Nutrition Clinical Practitioner

You didn't expect this.

You were eating well. Moving your body. Taking your prenatal vitamins. Doing everything pregnancy books tell you to do.

And then the call came.

Gestational diabetes. A condition you may have barely heard of — and suddenly it's all you can think about.

Maybe the appointment that followed left you with more questions than answers. A glucometer. A pamphlet. A list of foods to avoid. And a 2-week wait before anyone explained what any of it actually meant.

Since then, you've been doing what you always do when something feels overwhelming: you've tried to figure it out yourself.

You've Googled at 11pm. Joined the Facebook groups. Maybe bought a book or a course. You've cut foods you love, eaten the same three "safe" meals on rotation, and tracked every number with a knot in your stomach.

And it's still not working the way it should.

If any of this sounds familiar, you're in exactly the right place:

  • You follow the advice precisely — and your number still spikes

  • You're afraid to eat almost anything, but terrified of restricting too much

  • You wake up anxious about your fasting number before you've had a single sip of water

  • You've been told what not to eat, but nobody has explained why your body responds the way it does

  • You feel like you're constantly one wrong meal away from hurting your baby

  • You're worried that needing insulin would mean you failed

  • You've lost the ability to enjoy food — and you're grieving the pregnancy you thought you'd have

Here's what nobody is telling you: you haven't failed. The approach has.

The standard GDM advice was designed to lower average population risk across thousands of women. It was never designed for your body, your stress levels, your sleep, your real life, or your specific glucose patterns. That's not a flaw in you. It's a flaw in the system.

What if the next 8 weeks looked like this:

You open your eyes in the morning and check your fasting number — and instead of a knot of dread, you feel something closer to curiosity. You know what drives that number. You know what you can do about it.

You sit down to lunch without the mental arithmetic. You know how to build a meal that works for your body. Not because you memorized a list of safe foods, but because you understand the why — and the why travels with you to restaurants, to family dinners, to your best friend's birthday.

You get an unexpected spike and you don't spiral. You run it through the framework you've built and you figure out what happened. You adjust. You move on.

You walk into your next OB appointment feeling informed, not intimidated. You know what questions to ask. You know how to talk about your birth preferences.

You are a participant in your own care, not a passenger.

And you're actually enjoying being pregnant again.

That is what the GD Control Method is designed to do.

Support starts with a simple application

Why everything else didn't work — and why this does

Here's the thing no one told you at that first GDM appointment:

Your blood sugar is not just responding to what you eat.

It is responding to how you slept last night. To the cortisol spike that hit when you saw a number you didn't expect. To the stress of trying to manage this while also growing a human, working, and holding everything else together. To the hormonal shifts happening in your body this week that weren't happening last week.

This is what we call The Blood Sugar Spiral — and it's the reason the standard advice fails so many women who follow it carefully.

The Spiral has four loops that feed each other:

The Restriction Loop: Generic advice says cut carbs → you cut carbs → you underfuel → blood sugar becomes more unpredictable → you restrict more → repeat.

The Stress Loop: You get a high reading → you feel fear and guilt → cortisol rises → cortisol directly raises blood sugar → you get another high reading.

The Sleep Loop: Pregnancy disrupts sleep → poor sleep increases insulin resistance → the same meal hits harder → numbers are harder to control → you lie awake worrying → sleep gets worse.

The Isolation Loop: No real support → confusion and second-guessing → more stress → the spiral deepens.

Every GDM solution you've tried so far has addressed one loop — usually the food one. It handed you a meal plan (the food loop) and left the other three completely untouched.

The GD Control Method is built to interrupt all four loops at the same time. That is why it works when everything else hasn't.

Introducing The GD
Control Method

An 8-week high-touch coaching program for pregnant women with gestational diabetes — built to address every layer of what's keeping your numbers unstable, not just the food.

This is not a meal plan. It is not a list of rules to follow and hope for the best. And it is not a course you buy and work through alone at midnight.

This is what it looks like to have a nutrition consultant who understands GDM — specifically, not generally — in your corner for the most important eight weeks of your pregnancy.

Here's what we cover in 8 weeks:

Module 1: Foundations — Understanding Your Body, Releasing the Fear

Most programs start with a meal plan. This one starts with the truth. You'll learn exactly what's happening in your body with GDM, why it's not your fault, and why the advice you received may have been making things harder. We clear the myths, reset the mindset, and build the daily habits — hydration, movement, sleep, stress — that make everything else work. You'll also complete a worksheet called My New GD Story that directly addresses the guilt and self-blame most women are carrying from diagnosis.

Module 2: The Balanced Plate Formula

This is the food work — but not the way you've seen it done before. Instead of a rigid meal plan, you'll learn a simple visual formula for building any meal so that it works for your blood sugar. You'll understand the roles of protein, fat, fibre, and carbs. You'll learn why the order you eat food matters, how to pair carbs so they land differently, and how to choose the right carbs for your body — not for the statistical average.

Module 3: Your Personalized Fuel Plan

This is where generic ends and yours begins. You'll learn how to read your own glucose patterns, identify your specific triggers, and build a plan around your real life — your schedule, your cravings, your energy levels, your food preferences. No two women leave this module with the same plan. That's the point.

Module 4: Troubleshooting — Real Life, Stubborn Numbers, and What to Do When Things Shift

Fasting numbers that won't budge. Social events. Work travel. Third-trimester hormonal shifts that change everything. Cravings that hit at 10pm. This module covers all of it — including a clear, calm framework for what to do if medication or insulin is recommended, because that doesn't mean you failed, and it doesn't mean you stop eating well.

Module 5: Birth Planning, Postpartum, and What Comes Next

This is the module most GDM programs don't have. We cover how to talk to your OB about your birth preferences — including scripts for common conversations about induction, interventions, and monitoring. We cover what happens to your blood sugar after delivery, how to nourish yourself in the postpartum period, how to support milk supply, and how to protect yourself from the elevated Type 2 diabetes risk that follows GDM. You don't get dropped at the finish line.

Hi, I'm Alycia.

I had gestational diabetes in both of my pregnancies.

The first time, I walked out of my diagnosis appointment with a glucometer, a sheet of generic dietary advice, and a 2-week wait before my next appointment. I was a nutritionist. I knew more about blood sugar than most people in that room. And I still felt completely lost.

I followed the advice I was given. My numbers were unpredictable. I restricted more. They still spiked. I felt like I was failing something I should have been able to manage — and no one around me understood the specific, relentless anxiety of wondering whether every meal was harming my baby.

After my second pregnancy, I decided I was done with the gap between what the system offers and what women actually need.

I combined everything I know about holistic nutrition, blood sugar physiology, nervous system health, and real-life pregnancy — and built the program I desperately needed both times.

I am a Certified Holistic Nutrition Consultant and Natural Nutrition Clinical Practitioner specialising in perinatal health and gestational diabetes. But more than that: I have lived what you are living right now, twice, and I built something that actually addresses all of it — not just the food.

My approach: I don't hand you a meal plan and wish you luck. I work with you to understand your body's specific patterns, your real life, your stress load, and the full picture of what's driving your numbers — and we adjust together, in real time, across 8 weeks.

Because what you need is not more generic advice. You need someone who has been exactly where you are, who knows what actually works, and who will be in your corner until you get there.

Frequently asked questions

Is this going to work for me?

Every woman's body responds differently to pregnancy hormones, stress, sleep, and food — which is exactly why this program is personalised rather than prescriptive. Instead of handing you a rigid plan, we work together across 8 weeks to understand how your body specifically responds, and we adjust in real time as your pregnancy changes. If you are willing to show up and implement what we build together, this works. And if you have already tried other GDM programs without success, that is not a strike against you — it's exactly the situation this program was built for.

I'm already exhausted. Is this going to add to my load?

It is designed to do the opposite. Right now you are probably spending significant time Googling, second-guessing, logging manually, and anxiety-scrolling Facebook groups looking for answers. The GD Control Method replaces that chaotic, high-effort, low-return activity with a clear structure that tells you exactly what to focus on and why. Most clients find that having a framework actually reduces the mental load of managing GDM — because instead of being afraid of everything, you understand what matters and what doesn't.

I’ve tried other GD advice and it didn’t work — why is this different?

Because most GDM advice addresses only the food layer of what's driving your blood sugar. This program addresses all of it — food composition, meal timing, stress, sleep, nervous system state, and the hormonal shifts that happen across the trimesters. We also work together in real time, which means when something stops working as your pregnancy progresses, we adjust. A course or a one-time appointment cannot do that. The other thing: if the advice you followed was based on population-level guidelines rather than your specific body — which most standard GDM advice is — it was never going to work reliably. That's the gap this program closes.

My OB / midwife / dietitian didn't specifically recommend this. Is it okay to do?

Yes. Nutritional coaching is designed to complement your medical care, not replace it. In fact, the ADA's own guidelines recommend that GDM management include support from a nutrition specialist — because OBs and midwives are not trained to provide the level of individualised nutrition guidance you need. This program also includes a module specifically on confident conversations with your healthcare provider, so you leave better equipped to participate in your own care, not less.

What does the application process involve?

The application takes less than five minutes and there are no right or wrong answers — just tell me where you're at. I personally review every application and if I think I can help you, I'll reach out within 48 hours to schedule a free discovery call. That call is a real conversation with no pressure or obligation — just a chance for us to connect and make sure it's the right fit.

What if I end up needing insulin or medication?

Then we keep going. Needing medication is not a failure — it is a medical decision based on your hormonal profile, not a reflection of your effort or discipline. Many women who take medication during GDM still benefit enormously from understanding their nutrition, because food and medication work together. Module 4 covers exactly this: what to expect, how to stay confident, and how to keep eating in a way that supports your body even alongside medication.

Is this program covered by insurance?

In some cases, holistic nutrition services may be covered under extended health benefits. I'd recommend checking with your provider — I'm happy to provide a receipt for submission purposes.

Do I have access after my baby is born?

Yes — you have 8 months of access to the program portal. And the Postpartum Check-In Session bonus means you have a dedicated conversation scheduled after delivery to address your transition, your energy, your milk supply, and your long-term blood sugar health. The support doesn't end when the pregnancy does.

What if I have more questions?

Apply for The GD Control Method and book a free, no-obligation discovery call — I'd love to answer them personally.

You've been trying to manage this on your own.

You've read the articles, joined the groups, bought the course, and tracked every number. You've done everything a capable, motivated woman does when she's handed a problem and not enough support.

And you're still anxious at every meal. Still waking up dreading the fasting number. Still wondering if you're doing enough for your baby.

You don't need more information. You need someone who has been exactly where you are, who knows every layer of what's driving your blood sugar, and who will work with you — specifically, not generically — for the next 8 weeks.

That's what The GD Control Method is.

Early support means easier control. The sooner you start, the more time we have to stabilize your numbers, reduce your stress, and give you the tools to actually enjoy the rest of this pregnancy.

I personally review every application and respond within 48 hours. If I think I can help you, we'll book a free discovery call — no pressure, no obligation, just a real conversation.
